Travel

Perhaps the most important question is how to get to Montagnac-sur-Auvignon. Here is some quick information about flying, riding, or driving in.

Flying:

The closest airport is the Blagnac airport in Toulouse. Most major European carriers fly into Blagnac. If you fly Air France, you will have the choice of several flights per day from Charles de Gaulle in Paris. The Bordeaux airport is only marginally farther away. If you find a cheaper flight there (or want to start in Bordeaux and visit the wine country), the Bordeaux airport is also a good choice.

Trains:

If you are spending some time before the wedding in Paris or other French destinations, it might be easiest to take the train. The closest train station is in Agen. There are generally about three non-stop trains per day from Paris Montparnasse station to Agen, and many other connecting trains on different routes. You can make train reservations in English at www.raileurope.com, or if you want to try your French, at www.voyages-sncf.com. If you make the reservations early enough through raileurope, they can generally mail the tickets to your home.

Automobiles:

There is no public transportation to Montagnac-sur-Auvignon, so we would recommend renting a car or arranging carpools. You can rent a car at the Agen train station, or at the Bordeaux or Toulouse airports. The sites we generally use are www.autoeurope.com and www.cardelmar.com. Europcar.com is also reliable, and they have agencies located in Agen, Toulouse, and Bordeaux. Please note that most rental cars have manual transmissions--automatic transmissions are available, but are generally two or three times more expensive. If you need an automatic transmission, we would recommend booking early!
As we get closer to next summer and your travel plans start firming up, please feel free to use the comments on this section of the blog to look for carpools!
